We Have.....

Two sets of twin baby lambs on our farm.  I wish I was that fertile to produce twins....Geesh....I can just about guarantee that we will have another set before we leave on vacation.  We have two more Ewe's that are ready to pop.  One doesn't look so big so we are betting that there is only one lamb, but the other one is sort of up in there air.

Did you know that Sheep are only pregnant for 145 days.  Wouldn't that be awesome.

Anywho...the first set of twins had one twin that didn't quiet want to stand on it's own and just couldn't get warm which led to the lamb not being able to suck properly from momma ewe.  So we brought the lamb inside to get it warm.  We used the blow dryer to get it warm and let it sleep in our bathtub.  EWWWW  Gross...I Know, but we did a lot of scrubbing after it left. Kendyl was not a big fan of the lamb.  The sound that the lamb made I think scared the bageezus out of her.  Kelly took the lamb out the next day and momma ewe didn't want anything to do with the lamb and the lamb wanted nothing to do with sucking so we debated on what to do.  Damn thing was too cute to just let go, so we asked our neighbor lady if she would like to bottle feed and be momma to it.  So we took the lamb down to her place and they are having some success with it.

The second set of twins the same thing happened, the last twin born was a scrawny little thing and Kelly really thought it was dead or close to it.  Momma Ewe pulled back the hay/straw and gave birth to the lamb on cement.  YaY not cool.  So my uncle came and spent about 3 hours trying to get it to suck from momma ewe and had success.  Now the lambs are out and running around with all the other sheep.

Kendyl likes to  watch them from a distance but doesn't like them up close.

Here are some pictures of the lambs and Kendyl.

  1. Scared of a lamb! That's something you'll have to tease Kendyl about when she gets older ;) Mia's the same way with animals - she likes them until they make a noise, then she's like, get me out of here!

I love that you have new baby lambs on the farm - reminds me of when we'd come visit and get to bottle feed Gma's lambs.
